Dry Needling: The Pinpoint Approach for Pain Relief

Written By ChiroConcepts of Allen on April 29, 2021

Dry NeedlingAt a quick glance--and maybe even a long one--dry needling and acupuncture look the same; however there are two very different things going on. Acupuncture focuses on restoring a person’s energy flow while dry needling therapeutically stimulates muscle trigger points.

At ChiroConcepts in the Dallas Fort Worth area, we offer dry needling as part of our methods to provide pain relief from strains, sprains, muscle spasms, musculoskeletal pain, and more. And the benefits don’t stop there.

The Benefits of Dry Needling

Dry needling is part of a larger pain relief regimen, providing targeted care where massage and physical therapy can do well, but not as well as dry needling. The latter treatment provides pinpoint care (literally) on muscle trigger points to help those areas relax.

Problematic trigger points are often painful to touch and can cause pain in other areas of your body due to tension. Needling out the tension provides pain relief and restores range of motion. This is also shown to speed up the healing process.

Research shows that dry needling provides pain relief, helps your muscles release tension, and helps muscle nerves function correctly.

Dry needling is frequently used to treat sports injuries, muscle pain and fibromyalgia pain. It’s also used to help with back and neck pain, tennis elbow, migraine, spinal and joint dysfunction, and sciatica. The needles will release tension, inflammation, chemicals, and pressure in the muscles that has caused the pain.

Dr. Windfield and Dr. Schindlbeck both come from athletic backgrounds where pain from injury led them to seek out chiropractic care. These events put them both on the path to careers in chiropractic after their own treatments transformed their lives. They’re both on a mission to help others and spend much of their professional time caring for local collegiate and professional athletes.
